the momentum involved in a motor will give it a certain sound at least slightly different to a purely synthesised tone (tho you could synthesise a similation of a motor... in fact that's exactly the sort of thing the analog computers which a lot of modular synth technology developed from would have been used for

The guys explanation of utilising current Drone technology (precise movement of small motors etc) seems legit - which are now mass produced so i'm guessing this is way more affordable than it used to be.

Not sure of that, stepper motors used in such things as hard drives are very precise have been around for many years. And are and were mass produced.

Studio Electronics gear is getting way harder finding anymore for under an absurd fortune...
actually one of the interface buttons made that use all the time is from SE P5
you can always get a prodigy & midicv it... yet those are also getting expensive these days
not big into DX gear... have some... almost never even turn it on anymore
