I'm pretty sure that unlike highlander using somebody else's noise to make noise does not equal "better" or even "equal" the original noise

Heh.. I'm doing some maintenance on the wiki.

Uh +-error was this dude who was playing well known noise recordings and then air noising over them at live gigs. I'm not sure if he denied he was doing this but very quickly got called out for it. The add to the puzzle he's pictured here wearing a Harshnoise website which I think is domain owned by Xome? He even got himself booked to play at a festival in California (at his own expense for the flight) and then at the last minute claimed he could not make it and his explanation of why was really odd.. like he had actually flown here and then didn't show.

I guess the point being that even when the noise being played back is intact it's lesser than when somebody else plays it back .. at least under those conditions.

Not really sure what your angle on this is.. I may have looked at one of your posts about this before but don't recall an explanation of why. Merzbow seems like an obvious target.

Thanks for the info, sounds like a neat thing to do, a noise mime artist... no angle though, just wanted a noise source so happened to have two Merz WAVs from those happy days of Stdev. I'm pretty sure there actually is no trace of the original, as some tracks start before I start the Merzbow. Also if I re route - unplug etc I leave those sound in. I suppose Merzbow is some 'architype', so an apt source, but that wasn't intended. As for equal or better, my take on noise is if it gets bad it becomes music...

According to one of the RE/Search books Boyd Rice used to place a literal scarecrow on the stage at early NON shows so that the audience had something to look at while he did whatever behind the speakers.

One of the unexpected problems I had with my upcoming release on iTunes was that they would not allow a track title to have the word iTunes in it. I imagine there are many other forbidden words.. Apparently they do not allow Untitled tracks and I also imagine that mentioning popular mainstream artists in the track title is probably also verboten if for no other reason than to prevent dubious search results. I can't imagine that is the case for why that disallow iTunes to be in the title as that would be some terrible SEO.

Yes you mentioned the iTunes problem, not un typical. Panasonic (band) had to change their name to Pansonic… and in the UK there was a fuss over using 'Beyond the fringe' a comedy sketch thing influential on latter stuff, python... when some members couldn't use the name they called the act "Behind the fridge", and of course Apple can talk, I think they had to pay the Beatles something for keeping the name with regards to music. What about using 'EyeTunes' as Mr Warlock would no doubt have dome.

I suppose Masami Akita is OK as the copyright is out of date for Mertz so the Schwitters family cant sue.

Jacques Atali in “Noise The Political Economy of Music” sees the history of music as moving through five stages, Listening, Sacrificing, Representing, Repeating, and finally Composing. The fourth, repeating, is the period of recorded sound, the final period,

"Beyond the rupture of the economic conditions of music, composition is revealed as the demand for a truly different system of organisation, a network within which a different kind of music and different social relations can arise. A music produced by each individual for himself, for pleasure outside of meaning, usage and exchange."

"Everything began with objects, yet there is no longer a system of objects. The critique of objects was based on signs saturated with meaning, along with their phantasies and unconscious logic as well as their prestigious differential logic. The anthropological dream: [my dream is] the dream of the object as existing beyond and above exchange and use, above and beyond equivalence; the dream of the sacrificial logic...” - Jean Baudrillard

I can't remember which records or (be bothered to) find the thread but people on Special Interests or here somewhere IDK were pointing out a while back that some early Merzbow stuff is just a sound-collage of various early electronic/musique-concrete/tape-music records :D

seriously, how fucking lazy does one have to be to not make ones own noises? i think its clear that this is attention seeking behavior, he tries to ride the coattails of someone (marginally) popular, i think he actually believes this gives him noise cred when really he is just the poster boy for poserism

Using previous material is hardly 'new' in the arts is it... or is producing variations on previous work. i'm particularly fond of the sex pistols my way... nice irony, more their way...

seriously,
If you want a serious discussion i'm more than happy to do so, however if you just want to pointlessly hurl abuse or want to just make "preposterous" arguments to feed whatever, you need to find a more willing donor.

Yes well it's a bit difference to "perform" a rendition of a written composition versus pressing play on the tape deck or mp3 player or what have you but yeah these days anything goes.
