i don't mind the science stuff, but he seems to be under impression that "to do philosophy" [his words] you have to
a) completely misunderstand the other person
b) make a lot of tangential references
c) make sure the other person misunderstands you, too

etc.

maybe that's what flies in the world of painting. i think it's fucking dumb in this context though.

a) If you mean you - then perhaps. You tend not to uses sentences or nouns.
b) examples to make things clear...
c) If the other person is you - well you say you have a degenerative cognitive disease.

But

a) Read some philosophy books - not just the first few pages.
b) until you complete a) be skeptical about your own ideas
c) Philosophy attempts objectivity - so phrases like "fucking dumb" should be avoided.

Just as in poetry - it helps to know the subject fairly well before claiming one CAN master it.

Why - what is wrong with saying "Harsh terrain" or that coarseness being much the same IS measured in science/technology. The application of one discipline's measurement methodology being nothing new in science.

But I was measuring HNW and HN - not harshness.

But some philosophy can be very subjective - but not self indulgent claims of knowledge and understanding after 30 pages...
