Anyone know much about Blake Harrison's gear in the band Pig Destroyer? I've become really fascinated by grind & powerviolence bands that incorporate harsh noise in their sound and would love to get a basic idea of how they mess with sounds and still keep guitars somewhat articulate. (bands like column of heaven, endon, bastard noise, hatred surge, etc.)
The band just put out a new video with a pretty minimal electronic setup from Blake. Could be wrong, but looks like an old Roland sampler and a Korg kaoss pad into a mixer?
I've seen live photos where some obscure Boss pedals are also used, but thats about it. Anyone see the band live and get a chance to spot what he uses?

kaos pad....
obviously
looks like maybe boss sp series 202/303/404? type sampler
tried freeze framing yet couldn't get good look
button pads reminded me of that series Boss samplers
honestly couldn't hear it at all in track
sort of like having bass player you have to keep unplugged on stage
for the "optics"

Did a search, only thing I can find with 4x4 pads is the Roland SP 555? Not familiar at all with this thing.

Re: Pig Destroyer Sampling\Noisescapes
wow....PD have turned into full blown slipknot/cheese fest. Depressing. Saw them a few times back in the day...most notably at cbgb, where the singer could be heard in a packed house, despite a broken mic. Cannot believe how polished this track is. Explosions in Ward 6/38 Counts of Battery still some the best grind offerings ever.....along with early ANb stuff, who have also turned into a sterile and horrible joke. Jay Randall's electronic stuff on the early ANb records/Isis' Red Sea is to this day some of the best noise incorporation i've ever heard in a band setting. Sorry this post wasn't very helpful, just saddened about the current state of a band I love.
Re: Pig Destroyer Sampling\Noisescapes
In case anyone still reading this thread has the same curiosity as me, spotted some other gear Blake has used while in PD.

Aside from the Roland SP 555, looks like he's also used what appears to be one of those boutique "lo fi" multi-VCO drone synths, similar to the Electro Faustus's Drone Thing or Rucci's Maximal Drone. (has a LOT of quarter jacks in the back comparably though, so I could easily be wrong) Unit at the far left is KNAS's moisturizer spring reverb, obviously used less for the effect and more for making fucked up sounds with the springs.
No clue what the mini-yellow pedal in between is, but otherwise he's definitely using BOSS digital delay and digital metalizer pedals.
also I legit had no clue Jay from ANb was involved with Isis at any point, thats sick. Definitely going to give that a listen.

Wish I was old enough to experience cb's. By the time it closed I was still a kid. I get you on that though. There's still newer songs like Baltimore Strangler on their latest record or most of Phantom Limb for me that still rule. FWIW, the drum sound on that new song I posted is what really kills it for me. Lacks any meat or bones to it, truly do not get the thought process to hire Will Putney to help make a pig destroyer recording. At that point I'd rather hear a drum machine. Still kind of hopeful the record will otherwise be worth listening to.puddysjacket wrote: ↑Sat Jul 21, 2018 10:50 amwow....PD have turned into full blown slipknot/cheese fest. Depressing.
