Not quite on topic, but I want to instigate a sub-genre of "noise" called Merzbeat. Total mid-2000's laptop Merzbow copycat-worship. Something strange about this era. I don't even think it's his best (a very mixed bag), but there's something addicting about it. Making similar sounds is a very zen-l...

Is no one else bothered that seemingly half of noiseguide is nonsense spewed by a bot? Having to scroll through page after page of cleverbot replies has gotten old as shit. Why do we allow someone to essentially spam the forum with garbage text?

Out of curiosity, is Like Weeds named after the song by His Hero Is Gone?
My current setup, shot in authentic Gristle-O-Vision (patent pending)! Pedals are: Behringer Vintage Delay, Zoom B1 Bass multi-effect, Digitech Death Metal, EHX Bass Big Muff, ProCo Rat (not pictured). Contact Mic is next to the guitar, a little hard to see amidst all the cables. Not pictured: metal...

Pickup choice can also effect feedback. Are your pickups wax-potted? If they aren't, you can ramp up the gain to get them microphonic. Makes more interesting feedback (read: screechier) and you can yell into them. If they are wax-potted, you can crack it off. I'd suggest getting someone to explain i...
I went ahead and put it together. Didn't have much time to prepare for our first gig (rehearsals for a school performance), so I just got the contact mic and duct taped it to the back of the headstock on my bass. For the final performance (we got in, somehow) I'll be adding a bass big muff with the ...

In proper noise fashion, I did a split release with fellow Youtube noise artist Noir Bitters. Because I'm easily amused by transplanting elements of one medium into another, I decided we would do a split 7 minutes. I make screechy bass guitar noise with some added death metal drone shenanigans (all ...

The cheapest method I used was free apps on my phone. Modsynth + Bandlab (I can record things into guitar tracks and put distortion on them? Sign me up!) + Voice Recorder covered all my early bases. I guess there are probably cheaper phones, but it's a hand-me-down from my Dad so it cost me nothing....
Screeching feedback is exactly what I want with this. I do have a bass guitar, but it won't have that high-pitched screeching feedback to it. Plus it's a decent instrument that I wouldn't want to abuse, something that this device is going to need to handle a lot of. So get on craigslist, gumtree, w...
Even with low gain, a contact mic generally feeds back like a mofo. They have these things called basses, and they do make a good basis for low frequency noise machines  Screeching feedback is exactly what I want with this. I do have a bass guitar, but it won't have that high-pitched scree...
I've been planning to do noisecore stuff (Gerogerigegege, World, Bucket of Piss, just lots of noise, yelling, and blast beats), but my old noise box (received as a Christmas gift, guitar strings into a wooden box with 1/4 out) is much too fragile to handle punishment like drumstick bashing and throw...
