I have a Crank SP, nice and compact little microphone. I used it as some source on this (terrible quality) demo, but demonstrating the microphone was not my intent.

Sound demo of a contact mic is pointless anyway as they all sound like whatever object you attach them to, and whether that is 'good' or not depends 99% on a) how firmly attached they are to which part of whatever object, and b) what preamp / fx the thing is running thru. The main criteria is 'will it withstand more than 1 harsh noise show' and the answer with Crank's stuff is YES.

There's also these:

actually have a couple strange self contained deArmond piezo transducer pickups from the 40's/50's
used for recording Cello/Upright Bass & other stringed acoustic instruments
plus one that says "Shadow" W.Germany obviously from the 70s
guessing they are piezo transducer pickups?
"Shadow" seems extremely rare anymore
an old mentor bestowed these pro piezo acoustic contact microphones for me

"Y tho?"
was attempting recreating the original element in 1943 Telefunken Crystal Microphone
that was the original reason for performing such chemical process
though ultimately ended up using Shure sm58 element for better quality/higher output XLR
you can get higher output better quality piezo elements brewing your own crystals
rather than just buying the disks off ebay
those tend having tiny spec of crystal

Been meaning to try that some day.
