Wireless perfomances

Post by jliat » Wed Jun 07, 2017 1:43 am

Hi – I've been messing with wireless media readers, they take SD or USB cards and transmit using Wi-Fi. They a very small and battery / USB powered. I've an idea perhaps some might like to think about. Using such devices it would be possible to put on 'performances' in public spaces, either singularly or in groups. Audiences could listen / download using their phones or tablets. These events could 'pop up' over a city, it would be also possible to broadcast details of venues around a city, time and place. I see no reason why these could not take place in parks, beeches, or even in Bars. These are so small and relatively cheap and inconspicuous...one could have a festival over days and venues.. anyway just an idea...

Note: for some reason these don't seem to be available in the USA, though you can get them via UK on ebay?

Or you could use one of those FM transmitters intended for connecting your media player to your car stereo.

In regards to your idea would you beable to connect to it with a web browser on their iphone/laptop etc?

Years back we had these portable noise shows in the Old LA Zoo.. been thinking about doing something like that again.

Yes the phone / tablet sees it as a WiFi source, once you connect you can see the files on the devices SD or pen drive.

I think it might be fun just to walk around with it on? Did I say fun?

Yes YES you said FUN!!!

I have the wifi hotspot on my cellphone named "TRUMP IS A HUGE MISTAKE"

I have used FM transmitters in my live performances as a ghetto wireless setup but I've always meant to explore using the distortion and using multiple transmitters are competing against one another as a kind of shitty way to mix different signals.

Yeah basically.. It depends on if the media player has a built in http server so that you can browse the files in a web browser. If so then the browser should beable to play the file as it loads and therefor be streaming it.

Which opens it up to the world for sure, but I like the idea that only people at the gig get to access the files.

I love the competitive mixing idea, and the fm transmitting idea in general. How bout using a signal booster to increase range, and is there anyway to mod an FM transmitter to hit the more popular channels? those things are always set for like 88.3 (which is WAIF community radio , here in cincy, 88.5 , 88.6 etc. I would prefer to break into more popular channels and basically fuck shit up .
