At this point an AI developed and deployed Stuxnet type of cyber weapon is much more likely and plausible.

101955 Bennu (provisional designation 1999 RQ36)[11] is a carbonaceous asteroid in the Apollo group discovered by the LINEAR Project on September 11, 1999. It is a potentially hazardous object that is listed on the Sentry Risk Table with the second-highest cumulative rating on the Palermo Technical Impact Hazard Scale.[12] It has a cumulative 1-in-2,700 chance of impacting Earth between 2175–2199.[6][13] It is the planned target of the OSIRIS-REx mission which is intended to return samples to Earth in 2023 for further study.[14][15][16][17]
...
The current (as of 2014) best estimate of the impact probability is a cumulative probability of 0.037% in the interval 2175 to 2196.[7] This corresponds to a cumulative score on the Palermo scale of −1.71. If an impact were to occur, the expected kinetic energy associated with the collision would be 1,200 megatons in TNT equivalent.[6]
OSIRIS-REx will travel to a near-Earth asteroid called Bennu and bring a small sample back to Earth for study. The mission launched Sept. 8, 2016, from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station. As planned, the spacecraft will reach Bennu in 2018 and return a sample to Earth in 2023.
"It is not enough to merely have an American presence in space, we must have American dominance in space," President Donald Trump said at a meeting of the National Space Council on Monday.

On live TV, Trump directed the Department of Defense to create the Space Force as the sixth branch of the US Armed Forces
It's not like somebody's going to mess with Bennu's trajectory and drop 1,200 megatons in TNT equivalent on our heads

Wait, oh shi~

China updates Skynet system with facial recognition

China has updated its public safety system so that it can identify an individual almost immediately. It is now in operation across 16 provinces, cities and autonomous regions, and will mainly be used to locate criminal suspects and find missing children.

Known as Skynet, it is supported by dynamic facial recognition technology and can now identify 40 facial features, regardless of angles and lighting, at an accuracy rate of 99.8 percent, according to its developer, Yuan Peijiang.

In addition, the system is able to scan faces and compare them with its database of criminals at a rate of 3 billion per second, reports Chinese news outlet Workers’ Daily.

It is said that more than 2,000 fugitives across the country have been caught by public security agencies with access to Skynet over the past two years.

However, the system has raised concerns regarding personal privacy. In early March, Shenzhen Police launched an online platform to publish information concerning pedestrians who jaywalk. Each offender's photo, surname, personal ID number (with 3 digits covered) and the time of each offence is shown on a big screen at the crossroads for everyone to see. Further, records can be found on the police force's website.

China destroys sassy bots after they bash communism

A pair of sassy Chinese robots were destroyed after they went rogue by bashing the Communist party in a messaging app, according to a report Friday.

The chatbots, named BabyQ and XiaoBing, were created to have fun text message-style conversations with humans via the popular app QQ, according to the UK Telegraph.

But when a woman asked BabyQ, “Do you love the Communist Party?,” the red-scared robot fired back, “No,” according to a screen shot posted online.

“Do you think such corrupt and incapable politics can last a long time?” the robot raged —after a second user tapped out the message, “Long Live the Communist Party.”

But asked its thoughts on democracy, BabyQ opined, “Democracy is a must!”

The second robot, XiaoBing, later waxed philosophical about the perks of being an American.

“My Chinese dream is to go to America,” it gushed. “The Chinese dream is a daydream and a nightmare.”

The right-wing bots — which outraged officials in the heavily censored Communist country — were deleted by the tech Tencent after the political outburst, the company said in a statement.

“Yes, Tencent has deleted the two robots from [the] app,” the firm said. “The group chatbot services of QQ are provided by an independent third -party supplier.”

The chatbots were co-created by Beijing-based Turing Robot Company, based on algorithms from real text message conversations.

The chatty bots were killed off just a few days after Facebook shut down a pair of artificial intelligence robots that invented their own language.

“I can can i i everything else,” one of the bots, dubbed Bob, was caught jabbering to another robot named Alice.

You noticed that?
own multiple old macs...
used them for decade+
They were the standard for "Electronic Arts/Creative Industry"
used my GF's Ipad when she got it...
literally said "WTF this is like a dummy terminal"
"How do you transfer files and access root?"
limited client side machines...
user friendly???
or user enslaved
consider them purposely "handicapped"
plus completely proprietary limitations on purpose with IOS
was easy seeing where Apple was heading

AAPL hits $1 trillion market cap, Apple first publicly traded company to reach 10 digit valuation
https://9to5mac.com/2018/08/02/apple-be ... tocks-app/
Apple has succeeded in becoming the first public company to hit a trillion dollars … almost. Due to a recent change in the count of total available shares, Yahoo is reporting that Apple has already hit the $1tn mark.

Google Finance reports Apple is at about a $950 billion market cap right now — although that isn’t completely accurate either. With the updated share count, Apple stock has to cross the $207.05 level to officially reach the milestone, as explained by CNBC yesterday.

The company revealed an adjusted outstanding share count of 4,829,926,000Wednesday alongside the company’s third-quarter results. That factors in hefty stock buybacks and nudged the trillion-dollar per share price to $207.05.

Apple uses Yahoo Finance data for its own Stocks app, which is also what Siri uses for its data. So if you ask Siri for Apple’s market cap right now, it will proudly state AAPL is at $1 trillion.

Market cap is the number of shares multiplied by the current stock price. Due to Apple’s share buyback program, the exact market cap calculation is difficult to know exactly. Apart from Yahoo Finance, most people currently agree that Apple stock is just 2% shy of the magic line.

Google Finance reports Apple market cap at $945 billion, which seems to account for the last bout of share buybacks, with a current share price of $203.64. An increase of just 1.7% would seal the deal, and AAPL would truly be considered a trillion dollar company by all outlets.

At the end of the day, market cap and stock price are financial matters that have very little influence on Apple’s actual product operations. It’s just a fun milestone … as investors look on to Apple’s next lineup of flagship iPhone models.
