What is this image upload function you speak of? Does this site host images now?
When I posted the link earlier today it appeared here with no issue.

Yes ever since Xome upgraded the site. In fact for most image links you can paste the link into the file upload dialogue and it will upload it without you having to download it first. Also I think the image has to be under 400k in file size and there is also image dimension limits

When you post.. notice the attachments tab below and upload the image. Afterwards you can click a button to include a link to the image in the body of the post.

Yeah that's because you had already loaded the image in your browser it was cached locally so when you viewed in the thread after posting it was reading it from the cache.. that's how browser work.

You can use this link to check to see if a hotlinking images is allowed by it's server
