Why would anyone call you Irish??

All this is reminding me that I need to read more of Lucius Shepard's work. I was saddened to hear that he'd passed away in 2014; while not everything I'd read of his was to my tastes, he had a knack for arresting imagery.amishrobots wrote: ↑Mon May 08, 2017 2:35 pmThe dragon had apparently been a great terror at one time, destroying towns and villages until it reached this one, where a powerful wizard used a spell that would have destroyed it. But the spell would also destroy the wizard himself in the process. At the last second, the wizard apparently lost his nerve, so that they were both frozen in place, for hundreds of years or so, The great dragon Griaule, looming as a menace above the town.
The people came to blame the dragon for every ill that befell them, blamed it for their bad tempers, and their tendency to launch attacks on neighbouring towns. The dragon's evil influence pervaded the town for centuries. Every attempt to kill it had somehow failed due to the dragon's influence. The painting of the dragon required a huge factory built upon the dragon, to produce the massive amount of toxic pigments, more raids against neighbouring towns, hundreds of painters to carry out the artist's vision. It became his life's work, and bankrupted the town. The artist and the town all died with the dragon.
Also, there was a cult of people who came to gaze into the dragon's great, hypnotic eyes as they opened each day, and there were some sort of flying parasites that lived in his butt, and ate his excrement.
Honestly, I've always found artist monikers which are just someone else's given name fairly vexing regardless of genre. Sure, all-symbols names are more annoying to search for or introduce people to, but there's just something that throws me for a loop about that particular convention.
