Most confusing artist names

List them. I thought there might be a great artist somewhere named "various artists" that I may never know about.

That's kind of funny to me... It always seemed to be a simple matter of reading it how it looks. But, then, as a native English speaker, I don't automatically read "X" as "Sh" or "Z", only "Eks"... Took me forever to figure out "Xiu Xiu". Fortunately, Xiu Xiu comes up in exactly 0 conversations with me.

I've heard "Yuggoth" pronounced more ways than I care to admit ("Yuh-Goth", "You-Goth", "Ee-Goth"). It's caused me to lose any confidence in what the intended "correct" pronunciation truly is. I think Howard would prefer it that way, though.

I say "Yuh-Goth." I actually had to ask Xdude how to pronounce his project name when I was doing the podcast.

I hate names that are just wingding glyphs. At least !!! has a reference point for how to pronounce the name.

To be fair it probably should be an "sh" sound and AFAIK when I chose/stole the name there was no known determination on how it should be pronounced as I thought it had been made up.. color me surprised when I wanted to register xdugef.com and some guy with the last name of Xdugef had registered it.. for the record I pronounce it eX Dü Gehf as in geffen or gestalt and I also also say gif is g as in gift not jif as in Jiffy!!

I pronounce it "Yuh-Goth" as well, so that's reassuring. And, yeah, I'm glad the whole ▲-wave thing is over.

Weird. So, "Schdugef"? That makes it sound German. And that's their last name? I always thought "Xdugef" was exclusively a neologism of some sort. I seem to remember you explaining it once years ago, though I don't remember the details. Some kind of elusive, theoretical or non-existent concept associated with computer graphics... or something... Right?

Ha. I can certainly understand how "jliat" might confuse people, but "J late"? Sounds like a complete misreading. There's some outright vowel transposition going on there.

Technically it's a acronym J.L.I.A.T. and now i'm sort of stuck with it.

Andy War Hole

or

Andy Wa all

Neat Ch

or

Neat chee

As for artists names the UK band 'The The' I like. I stuck with JLIAT as its good in search engines-
there is a label in the UK - Touch - but its not good at all.

An Scottish Arts thing called Arika Heavy Industries - that regretted this as it causes customs problems.... so advice - be careful..

Well I can't confirm this now because so links to my project obscure older references to actual people named xdugef but I seem to recall the person who actually had xdugef as a lastname was asian. But the sh sound is not necessarily german or asian.. for example the Mayan gods Xmucane and Xpiyacoc are pronounced SHMO kane and SHpE YA kok.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Xdugef

Well according to this some guides I found online if the word starts with X it should be a sh sound..

https://forum.wordreference.com/threads ... -x.147682/

Although in english there aren't many words that start with the letter X and words like Xylophone are pronounced like the letter z
Xylophone is from the Greek xylon, which is (or was—I'm not up on my modern Greek) pronounced with an initial [ks]. Many words borrowed from Greek via French developed a [gz] pronunciation along the way, which was reduced to [z] word-initially when adopted into English.
I guess the only exception is X-ray... I suppose if I put a hyphen after the X it'd be less confusing but I probably wanted to be confusing so ....

I guess so, yeah. But it beats being an asshole, right? At any rate, intelligence is not limited to mental aptitude or degree of education. An ability to squint through the myopic blur one's own cynicism and selfish, personal misery certainly says something about one's overall intelligence, does it not?

How do you pronounce Griaule anyway? "Gree-All"? "Gree-Oh-Leh"? "Grey-Ool"? "GRUEL"?
