Does anybody else get anxious/queasy looking at photographs of the cosmos and celestial bodies? Literally, even the term "celestial body" has all kinds of eerie, ominous, almost mystical connotations for me (In before someone posts the Star Trek: TNG opening sequence or a giant picture of Saturn or something)! My discomfort is associated mainly with the thought of floating helplessly into the incomprehensibly vast emptiness of space. The scale of everything in space is dizzying, which doesn't help. Simply viewing images (in some cases, even renderings) of space is all it takes to make me feel squeamish. I think that I developed this irrational anxiety through one of the possible deaths in the game, Shadowgate. If you smash one of three mirrors in one of the rooms, it is revealed to be a magic portal to the cosmos, and you get sucked through and die in the vacuum of outer space. Fuck that!

Since I'm on the subject of my totally irrational cosmic agoraphobia: I am perpetually obsessed by the moon, especially on cloudless nights where it shines so brightly that you can read by it. I can stare at it for hours, and I love to bask in its glow. It's really a magical, otherworldly experience for me that I do not take for granted. It's about as close to anti-material spiritualism as I can get. But, at the same time, the naked sky and full moon's gothic sublimity induce a subtle feeling of cosmic dread and bewilderment. My fuck, that sounds pretentious!

Current obsessions: Showering more than once a week and progressively killing off the probable multiple yeast infections that've slowly consumed my person over the years of self-neglect and beyond-subpar hygiene. Enjoying my regular, smooth coffeepoops. I'm really getting my shit together, no pun intended. I feel more productive and alive and capable recently than I have in a long time. I think it's the fuckloads of coffee mainly. Beats a lot of the other shit I was using to self-medicate. :coffee:

That makes me feel pretty good to hear that, dude.

I love the idea of floating through space, completely alone. I never made it to the U.S to disappear into the wilderness, these days I just stare at pictures of mountains and daydream.

Mhm. It seems like many of us here are on a collective upswing. Maybe nothing extreme, but better than usual. And that's nice. I'm happy that we seem to be doing well, if only in the most broad and general sense.

On the topic of mountains: I've lived in Huntsville so long, I feel out of my element when I travel to Mississippi. We're essentially on the edge of the Appalachian foothills in Huntsville. Mississippi seems utterly flat in comparison:

I think that's the one thing I would really miss about living here in particular, relative to where I lived in MS as a kid. No foothills! Plenty of wide open space, but nothing as awe-inspiring as what I see driving through NE Alabama and the parts of Tennessee and Georgia that I pass through on my way to Chattanooga.

PS: I almost forgot to mention that I wanted to apologize for never getting back to you regarding those Pure Data programs you sent me. I was having trouble even getting them to run, and I quickly realized I didn't have a firm enough grasp on the programming to be even remotely productive with it. I was frankly too embarrassed to tell you.

Sure when I have actually done it.. I'm ordering some supplies but I probably won't get to it until next weekend. I can do two tests one is by making a mold from an existing record and another is by pouring resin into an existing plate I have for a 7". My goal is to get a lacquer cut and then do the silicone mold and then pour resin into that.. they will probably have to be one sided but depending on how well it works I'll try a two sided mold. I'm basing this on some articles I saw recently but I'd heard about people doing this with glue in the past.

Based on the examples I have heard the sound quality is no worse than a lathe cut and for makin' copies potentially a fuckload cheaper.. definitely cheaper than a proper pressing

Yeah I don't think using this type of "glue" is gonna work for this application plus I'd prefer a clear base that I can add pigments to.

The glue I mentioned before is PVA, otherwise known as Elmers. Also you want to use a resin that hardens and is not especially flexible or sticky once it cures. The article I read used a polyurethane resin..

I'm going to do my tests with this resin before I get experimental with random hardware store resins

and this for the silicone molds

the stuff i used came out hard as a bowling ball, just enough flex not to chip, basically just like a black record, only problem is that it sticks to everything, not sure if its moldable, anyway yeah its about the same price but probably way more trouble

Yeah. That's sort of what MS looks like on a low dose of acid. Fairyland.

CURRENT OBSESSION: Finally overcoming my fear of schematic diagrams! Excited. My congealed brain still can't suss anything remotely complex, but having figured out some very basic circuits is a start, at least.

nice, that pic is the park down the street called Cathedral Hills, a rustic park with miles of trails around the hills, the wildflowers were out that day, mostly done now, a great place to trip balls or what have you
