Uh... in the case of imposter syndrome it's the individual who is thinking it so it's not a matter of it being consensual.

The opposite of the "imposter syndrome" might be the Dunning-Kruger effect.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunning%E2 ... ger_effect

The Dunning-Kruger effect is a cognitive bias in which unskilled individuals suffer from illusory superiority, mistakenly rating their ability much higher than average. This bias is attributed to a metacognitive inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes

Pfffff!

Doubtful.

My noise is far from perfect and full of technical fuck-ups. I just don't care enough to stress over it. I'm certainly not superior, that's for sure. Yeah, I may say it in a joking manner but seriously?

Hell no.

I let his calling me a cunt go. I let him post comments like how 'little I know', 'poxy graphs,' (perhaps you didn't read his demolition of a graph - he chose one labeled clearly that was showing an error - and "we are all sure that Clemon lies through his the testicles you must do. Because this repeated shit is wrong all wrong." "spouting shit I" "Well mister smarty cunt t"

He began this thread because his server blocked his bad language with "pompous buffoon Jiliboob"

"In a can't be arsed mood today so just presume that any boring shit you decide to cut and paste from another corner of the internet to back up the fact that you are super fantastic and awesome, my response will always be

CUNT!"

Now I can handle this - just. But when he alters my findings to gloat in my inadequacies I think its time he should have a slap. There is much more on his blog I could have used. But it seems now I'm the one being vilified - the last two graphs I posted - as others he could NOT find fault with he ignores. I found this strange for an academic.

RJ - read the thread - where have I been insulting - why is it shitty - its his impression of himself - it might throw a light on his attitude, especially his underhand use of data that would get him thrown out of most universities if caught. Does he speak like he does above in general public? I doubt it. OK 14 year olds say FUCK on the net as they cant at home - Niall is in his mid 20s.

Lastly - RJ - don't use ageist remarks - "quirky old dude" replace 'old dude' - with queer, dyke, niger… no difference IMO.

Tim - I'm not sure why I should appologise - do you mean for not letting Niall fake and ignore my results as and when it suits - as he's got some psychological problem - OK.

I'll ignore anything Niall posts from now on.

Niall - I suggest you should take down the blog as its maybe read by prospective employers?

i would've thought you could understand what i said well enough to write rebuttals by now. what i actually meant is that the values i seem to judge myself by are unusual - not status and achievement.

jliat elsewhere said something about normality... i think that my expressions of self value are somewhat unusual. i take some self worth from e.g. the notion that if things had been different and i hadn't fallen unwell i could've been a success. and i do take quasi delusional sense of worth from the idea that i will be a good poet [that dream will soon be crushed :) !]. i even take some self esteem from the end of my philosophy degree.

but also i engage in a fair amount of anxious [pseudo] existential rumination. it means that i often believe that all the above values and more are entirely pointless. that does not so much open up a new sphere of self worth, as mean that i value how i value things - almost with an ironic detachment. this is a long winded way of saying that i pretty much like myself, for no substantive reason, and did through a very bad depression. there's nothing i could point to... sometimes i do, but only in passing and not to cheer myself up, just to prove a point - that the question could be answered adequately.

long story short - i value myself just because, and it has become habit. i have nothing to prove to anyone [except maybe the trolls on here].

UNBELIEVABLE!!! I made a post calling you out for totally misreading posts and you totally misread it!!!!

My post was nothing to do with Nialll!!! It was a reply to the bit where you responded to fire's claim that he DIDNT claim the universe would be understandable by quoting him saying that his gibberish posts would be understandable, NOT that the universe would! I wasn't asking you to apologise for anythingg; I sarcastically joked that this must be your idea of an apology since you emptyquoted proof that you were wrong! But actually I know that you just misread his post in your rush to argue about something anything.

AND THEN YOU MISREAD THAT :D

Also you'll probably misread this, it's not very well written to be fair.

Funny that you'd (if accidentally) make up straw men while arguing with fire, its not like there's a shortage of nonsense and incorrect statements in what he actually DID post.

(p.s of course it's not true that his posts will ever make sense either but that was nOt the point)

i don't think it's suitable to magnify someone's innocent mental problems, or to try to make someone feel bad for something they've done well.

Ok - see this now. Sorry - no rush, just a mistake. I found it slightly annoying of being asked not to respond to Niall's general behaviour and falsifications. The latter being my main gripe.

So yes I misread your post and here is the apology.

The actual point you make re fire has far too many negatives for me to be concerned with at the moment. And sarcasm is sometimes missed in text posting- well I certainly missed it.

So let this thread continue to wander wherever

lol... when did this become about me having a psychological problem. Bad day + random thought after listening to a podcast from an interview with Jocelyn Bell (Quite and awesome lady) and now I have a problem?

I'm doing quite well thanks very much.......a 2 year contract, research funding etc.

Also do you think that how I behave to a buffoon like you on NG actually translates to how I respond to people I actually respect IRL? Yup i call people cunts ALL the time...
Did you not notice that it has been mentioned so much that its potency here has been diluted so much that it is more of a (very poor) running joke?????

I hold a higher opinion of Clemon than I do you,

My "air of superiority" is exasperation.
