I'm getting far too accustomed to Facebook.. My mind always forces me to search for a like button somewhere on this forum.

That's enough reason NOT to implement a 'like' system.

Beats Facebook. BTW, Myspace is precisely what we did before Facebook.

I dunno.. MySpace was terrible.. but for reasons that are different than why Facebook is terrible. Facebook mostly wins because fucking everybody is on it.

That's why I don't like Facebook. I get why it's so convenient for networking, but I hate how it's become so integrated into everything. Of course, Myspace had its own drawbacks. Namely teenage girls, scenesters, friend collectors (typically one in the same). 2004-2007 Internet youth culture was a pretty obnoxious thing in itself, even without Myspazz. But, for its time, I still think myspace was pretty good.

Despite being awfully utilitarian/now-dated, it was still a very useful tool. That was really what I liked about it: You could post all your info and some tracks and it was good for networking and finding other artists/fans, which set it apart from less social-centric sites like Audiostreet. I discovered and got to know/chat with the members of quite a lot of (no-name) bands/artists on there. At least a few that I still really enjoy to this day. In spite of all of the good things I could say about it, it has to be acknowledged that Myspace played a big, big part in my antipathy towards Facebook. Long story short: I got burned out on social media with Myspace. Myspace sucked up so much of my time and attention, it's freaking absurd (I don't blame anyone but myself). It was basically Gigapets on crack for high schoolers. I was pretty much done with the whole thing once I got Myspace out of my system! Always liked rambling endlessly on forums better! :)

IMHO, Facebook itself just centralized something we already had with the Internet as a whole (Okay, so did Myspace to a large degree). I understand the convenience appeal totally, but I really dislike how it's become this monopoly of online communication at the same time. You're more or less obligated to have it and to use it, otherwise, a large chunk of people would be practically impossible to reach. Same with smartphones, and I haven't got one... What a drag! It also doesn't help that this centralization makes it that much more of a challenge to keep individual peer/family groups separate without managing multiple profiles and access permissions.

Oh well, I don't think any of what I said was especially illuminating/not totally obvious. I just like to hear myself type.

What grinds my gears about how facebook has taken over is I need to have an account and log in to it if I want my obviously superior and nuanced opinion to be known on some comment sections of news sites.

I mean usually there is a bunch of "log in with such and such" options, and often you can just create an account with that particular wobsite, like who wants to complete the register process for every little stupid news/whatever site they go to though?

On the one hand, it is handy to be able to just "login with facebook" to a vast multitude of wobsites, on the other hand, I hate the idea of fucking Facebook being the lord of my unified internet identity.

And on the fourth hand, give us back our anonymity you fucking soul sucking bastards!

Or Google, for that matter.
