Oh, it's a Japanese art house thing from the late 80's. It's really gory and has a sort of noisy, industrial soundtrack. But, I guess the copyright laws being what they are, it had to be removed.

Damn copyright laws.

kinda late for discussion but fuck yeah! Tetsuo the Ironman was awesome!
absolutely cyber-punk and violently abstract as fuck. i don't know if this is true or not but i think that Tetsuo character from the manga Akira by Katsuhiro Otomo probably derived its inspiration from this particular movie. there's quite a similarity behind these two.

and dude, that last scene where they two morph into a big throbbing metal dick with bosozoku-esque exhaust at the back is the most ridiculous and absurd shit that i had ever seen  . fucking amazing! one of the best movie moment in history for me.

this remind me of something.
There's these particular one time when i was playing around with a drum sound from my synthesizer (yamaha pss 480 - which i inherited from my late brother) and fucking found the drumbeat that is sort of similar to that last track in the movie and it was amazing. i did not know how to play drum and i just jamn my finger randomly on the key -- loop the sound on looper --- lower the beat and finally filtered it through a delay pedal and gain from overdrive and HOLY LORD! with a lil bit of noise layered onto it i swear to god that was the second best shit that i had ever made in Noise. Sort of new-wavy industrialized noise. sadly i forget to record that shit. I accidentally wipe that drum beat from my looper couple days later. like i said, i don't know a shit about drum so i couldn't replicate that shit back. what a disappointment. well i guess that is the thing about noise. it was just an ephemeral sort of entertainment.
insecure PRETENTIOUS FUK that made noise to hide from the fact that he can't play instrument.

Hard to say if there is any connection between Akira and Tetsuo, the manga definitely started first, not what year it gets to the biomechanical mutating stuff but I think it must be before Tetsuo was released... tho Tsukamoto's earlier works have the same biomechanical themes and aesthetic already.

Most likely Tsukamoto's was influenced by Akira I think if anything. Both were developing around the same time really but the Akira manga would be much more widely known so it's more likely that Tsukamoto knew of Akira than Otomo knew of some weird underground super 8 films :)

anyway this stuff probably was just generally going around in japan media at the time :) Tetsuo kind of means 'iron man' so it's not a great coincidence if they just happened to choose the same name
