CUT-UP NOISE

Post by pd-13 » Sat Jul 28, 2018 9:51 am

Hey guys, i just heard some "Sickness" stuff a few day ago, and i still in love wit it.
I think, his style is so called "cut-up noise"...Can you tell me guys how to play this shit live? What i need to buy? I already have an active mixer and a distortion pedal. I dk, may be some sampler or what? Please, give me that classy entry-level weobu setup for play noise live.

you can do it with recording/sampling noise loops
look into Roland/Boss SP series like the sp555
or even an Akai MPC series
or hack up all your tracks on computer
(do they all sound BPM sync changes?)
then put mono/stereo tracks on another device as source
for cramming through pedals live
you get the picture

Thank you, but once again please
1) I have to record some interesting noise loops by using any fucking methods
2) Than i have to load these loops into a sampler
3) After that i have to make a effect chain with pedals and use my sampler as a SOURCE
4) Than playing those loops live as i want it and messing with pedals(effect-chain) connected to a mixer/sampler around all of it
Right?

yes
and/or
you can use virtual sampler or DAW
LMMS/FruityLoops/VST
no clue what OS 32/64 bit you are using
that's the preparing your raw source
(if you don't own or use hardware samplers)
for pushing through FX chain/processing live
you can do it with CD/MP3 player

then you totally get the theory/method
start making big batch of samples
record some long noise tracks with variance
hack them up into batches of non sequential samples
for new banks on the Akai
then real time press buttons or sequence them
experiment

If you or anyone is interested in another way of making loops I've been playing with these..

As you can see they are cheap, and will play looped stuff from a Micro Sd card. So you could in effect build a sampler with a few of these for well under $20.00. They can be powered from USB...

Those look fun, will have to get

PD-13 for cutup noise get anything that cuts up noises! either in the Burroughs sense of re-editing sounds, or in the sense of suddenly switching in realtime between different feedback-based, synthesised or recorded sounds or silence. Look out for A-B switch pedals, mixers with mutes on each channel, AV source switching boxes, DJ mixers, anything that allows you to change things up quickly

seems like he already comprehends it better than you
btw Burroughs learned it from Brion Gyson
that "Process" is different method involving tape splicing(cut-ups)

Have you ever heard any of Gysin's cutups?
He was using concrete method with tape
it's not so much in his book that can remember
been ages since read it.... in the bookshelves somewhere
Burroughs did cutups with scissors and print on paper
emulating Brion's tape method
just sayin
your point is valid
merely clearing up slight inaccuracy on that reference

Switches can make one sound cut into another, end it, or bring it in.

Accrue many sources and establish a means by which to switch them up or change effect really fast.
