What to look for in a mixer?

Post by MysteriousCreep » Mon Dec 18, 2017 3:42 pm

I'm looking into getting a mixer, as they seem pretty useful for noise. However, I don't have a speaker yet (so I can only use it with friends) and have a limited budget ($100-150) after Christmas. With that in mind, what mixer would you recommend?

I won't tell you to get a specific mixer because there's so many out there. Look for something that has send/return, panning, and at least a high/low EQ, but if you can get a high/mid/low EQ then that's even better. You don't need a dedicated stereo channel if you have panning, and it's more versatile so don't worry about that. Everything else depends on what you might prefer, like what type of connections are available or built in effects, but really make sure you have those three things because you'll get the most use out of those.

I like semi-parametric (swept) EQ's on mine.

I'd hit your local craigslist, and see what you can get. You might even pick up a powered one :eew:

I just want to warn anyone about the Behringer XENYX 802.
The 3 pronged power input/connector is very fragile. It breaks with little effort.

More than 1 FX send (aka aux send, monitor send etc) is a great bonus for feedback-loop-based noise
