At times the familiar "sound" that is recognized as a guitar remains and other times not. The visual aspect has no bearing on what I am after or trying to accomplish. A great example is feedback generation, manipulation and control. A vibrating string offers many options and how that string is deployed could very well be on a guitar. I assure you that even though the form may be recognizable as a guitar very un-guitar like sounds can be produced through manipulation and processing.

Just needs scaled up a bit.

I think trying to quantify music is one of the biggest wastes of time in the world, like discussing your favourite colour or deity or pizza topping. People should realise that and get on with their life.

The upper pickup is from an old Teisco ET-400something, the model where the pickups screw onto an aluminum pick guard. These pickups sound fantastic, especially with short scale unwound strings. Very handy that they are about 5/16th" tall. The headstock has provisions for a contact mic and magnetic pickup. I routed a shallow channel in the neck for the wires before gluing on the Duralumin fingerboard. This guitar works quite well as a fretless instrument and is a solid platform for prepared explorations. A slide and an E-bow is a good time. The upper section now has it's own straight wired output jack. A volume pedal is used for control. The headstock pickups, when deployed, are wired to a stereo jack with a stacked pot handling volume. The bridge and neck pickups are wired in a standard configuration with a switch and volume knob. When the mood hits I string it with the extra 3 treble strings and tune them to whatever intervals work at the time.

The images are not up to date, but the gist is there.

Duralumin was the trade name for Duraluminum. It is aluminum that is alloyed with copper and age hardened. We used to call it Dural, today it is IADS 2000 series. The stuff I had was/is 2048.
