EMS Synthi A.
I listened to the Alessandro Cortini/Merzbow collab (based around their mutual love for this synth), and it has some of the most unique sounding noises and textures. Shame this thing goes for around $10000, tho.Image

Still the most functionally useful guitar synth I ever had.

Even better: combine Buzz and Meat boxes into one unit, call it the Cone Shredder per MKULTRA's suggestion .

That or release the schematics.

I have a Trike fuzz, it's crazy, but no Buzz Box. I could probably get the same results with a Blue Box.
I read somewhere, probably wrong but.. that the Buzz Box was similar to a Blue Box + Grunge.

The Catalinbread Perseus seems to be the closest thing..just a little too much $$$

I had one of these! Sold it for £400! The voltage controlled joystick was particularly useful...

I took a Bank loan to get it, and had to explain to the manager just what a synthesiser was- he was cool and gave me
the loan. Note the Phillips tape - couldn't run to a Revox. circa 1975...

The thing hanging on the mirror was an ex-army throat mike. Made great guttural sounds though the VCF / reverb - synthis had a built in string reverb. And an analogue sequencer. You can hear the use of the sequencer and VCF on the Fripp and Eno LP. And Fripp's use of a time lag accumulator... which is just running the out of one tape recorder back into the input of the first, mixing the return signal to slowly fade... the distance between tapes gives the length of lag, the input feedback level the decay rate. The great thing is you end up with a recording on the second tape of the piece...

The cone shredder is a meat box and bass fuzz, isn't it? At any rate, there's a simple mod you can make to a DS-1 to make it sounds quite like a buzz box. Never did it myself, so I can't say how close it is, but for the cost of a second hand DS-1 and a capacitor, you can't really go too wrong.

I saw where I goofed up the first time I tried this, going to give it another shot soon.

The version I saw uses a PN2222A transistor (Not a capacitor, I am a moron), that one you posted is a bunch easier still, though.

I saw one with a transistor for bringing down the gain, where's this one please?
I think trying to quantify music is one of the biggest wastes of time in the world, like discussing your favourite colour or deity or pizza topping. People should realise that and get on with their life.

Casper Electronics, I think? I tried uploading the image and for whatever reason it won't work.

That's the one I was thinking of, thanks

So did you try this one yet?

I just did it, and it seems to have no effect until you get the distortion control up to 12 o'clock and then it's just an oscillator, descending frequency from the 12 o'clock position to full clockwise. It kind of blots out the original signal, I think maybe if I boost the signal before it goes in, it might get loud enough to interfere with the oscillation in an intersting way. Not much use on it's own, unless you want an oscillator.

I should dig out the schematic and layout and see just what it's doing.
