also, to answer your original question the memory of the microsampler is very limited so in all probability the tape player is providing some long "backing" track or some kind of lengthy drone or field recording that she doesn't want to burn sampler ram on.

i've also heard her hold down the fast forward + play buttons to get screechy tape sounds that then get looped.

Yeah I figured it out, she uses it in her track 'intent or instinct' its for the back track which is just a long loop. which makes a lot more sense than using the microsampler.

I really need to get one of those tape players for the blind...tone and speed control, and multiple outs..

Hey, how about dismantling Puce Mary's setup now?

I've seen her live a few times.

From what I saw, she used a:
Korg MS-20
Roland R-8
Doepfer Dark Energy
Some Boss Digital Delay
An old blue Ibanez pedal
Boss Metal Zone
Mixer

Thanks.

That's a lotta synth going on there, not sure what that sort of thing costs in Denmark but I'd imagine, like everything else in Scandinavia ... quite a lot.

Although I found Denmark significantly cheaper than Norway ... I'd hate to try and buy a KORG there, considering beers in bars in Oslo cost me around $16AUD each.

Also, not to sound too much like I'm complaining but I'm a bit jealous that you've had the chance to see her a few times. We don't get a lot of noise acts coming to your town, they tend to stick to the east coast.

That being said, we did have Wolf Eyes here a while back and Boris are coming this month.

You don't get to complain when you have TISM. TISM is all you need.

Uh,..yeah that's a pretty expensive bit of stuff to get if you poor.

Also I'm pretty sure she probably uses an SP-404,303,202..or something.

You'll need a sampler for that kind of stuff. I've got a Korg MS-20 mini,SP-404,and some effects now and that's a great set up. You don't need all of what Puce Mary has. Just look into a lot of stuff and get the least you know you can and make it work.

Synth and sampler tho you'll almost definitely need for that style noise.

Admittedly, I like their sense of humour but that's where it stops for me: musically, they don't butter my bread at all.

Old thread but anyway.

I am not so much into Pharmakon's sound, but I admire her vocals. I don't know if it is just her yelling voice or some pedals she uses, but she sounds kind of brutally choked or supressed, kind of like her voice is struggling to pass a threshold and when it does, it sounds so ripping. There's a brutal but dynamic peaking distortion, not the average wall of super hi gain clipping. Is this a noise gate or what?
