I know.. back in the day I had to layoff animation a frame at a time to 3/4 tape.. if you used anything longer than a 20 min tape over the course of doing a frame dump you'd get black frames where the tape had stretched.

Although to be honest.. back when I used a 4track and I did use the hi speed setting alot I only ever had a few tapes break and it was mostly because they were cheap tapes.

In my uni days I was shooting stop motion on a Umatic (a low-band one at that i think!) - after the poor machine prerolling and cueing to take each frame every single time we'd be lucky if it played at all by the time a few seconds of animation was done :D
