I've done sandpaper on the record player before but it just keeps pushing the needle away

I have no suggestion for software.

I'm using hard drive platters as coasters to put drink on. Works well too.

Listen to MKULTRA, this is his wheel house.

Even broken turntables can be useful, such as the case with this experiment of mine. Detach the tone arm then solder it to a 1/4" mono cord and presto, you have a free-moving mic. Scrap everything but the motor and the plate, wire it to a battery power supply with a potentiometer and wowie, you have yourself a variable speed plate, sans-mic of course. I'm still working on this one myself; you should (and I should) learn about motors or ask someone about them because my prototype isn't very flexible as far as different speeds go.

And hey, no need to buy sandpaper discs, wreck the stylus within fifty seconds and replace it with a contact mic'd sewing needle: you can get the same effect from cutting discs out of frozen pizza boxes!

Yes, this does work. I've made some of my best noise with cardboard discs, and the best thing is, the side with the printed ink b/w the side that's regular brown cardboard produce totally different textures.

As for record warping, it's more than possible but they can't be cooked for long; also depends on the thickness of the record but heat/time is the variable you can actually control.

I probably boiled these ones at high for two or three minutes:

The result?

fucking glory.

Also, look out for record players that automatically lift off the tone arm when they're a certain distance away from the center. This is a common problem with a common solution: measure the "trigger distance" then cut a fairly thick disc (~1/8"+) that's slightly longer in diameter so the tone arm just bounces off of it, never entering the "trigger zone."

After watching that video I had an epileptic seizure and died a horrible death from choking on my own tongue. So thanks for that.
