Tried again using a Muji desk tidy box as an enclosure, only cracked a tiny bit >_>
Now just a LOT of soldering to do. I put the pots kind of the wrong way around too so it's going to be fiddly

How difficult are matrix mixers to build? I'm a complete novice when it comes to electronics, but I'm thinking of making a really simple one, like a 3x3. Are pots and 1/4 inch jacks all you need?

How good are your soldering skills?

Regarding noise, it often culminates as radio. Which, more often than not (it seems) is tuned to the worst possible station.

Listening to a morons interpretation of Jesus is not my cup of tea (save that 0.01% of it that is genuinely hilarious).
only for you, big C.

when i was in the pdx area the radio interference was twangy cuntry, kwjj iirc. out here in the sticks its just static. much better.

You're all very kind, first beer's on me.

RFI under the MAX transmission lines in Portland was glorious. I'd love it if I had just white noise. I pick up an AM religious transmitter in my locale though. Radio wave pestilence.

I looked at this already; the schematic for a 3x3 is pretty informative. Am I understanding right that it's just input jacks into a pot, then through a resistor into a single line going to an output?

Fig 4 on this page is very helpful too, drawing of how the wires and pots and resistors are actually wired up:
http://schematicdiagrams.net/matrix-mixer.html

That page is about making an active matrix mixer (which I guess is why it's 15k resistors & 100k pots rather than both the same value as on passive schematics??) but the layout of the mixer part is the same

Just to clarify... The pots should all be the same value and the summing resistors should all be the same value, but the pots don't have to be the same value as the resistors. In my experience, 100K is too large of a value for the summing resistors if you're using these with guitar pedals. Try 1-10K instead.

i built mine with 100k pots and 100k resistors and it seems to work fine with guitar effect pedals

Hmm in that case I might try with 100k since i found them already VS getting demoralised scrabbling around trying to dig out enough 10k ones from my boxes of electronic junk :)
