Sounds like he's doing two 12V wall warts now, rather than splitting a 24V supply.
I think trying to quantify music is one of the biggest wastes of time in the world, like discussing your favourite colour or deity or pizza topping. People should realise that and get on with their life.

in case of pots i have got another question.

what sort of pots do you prefer linear or logarithmic ones for a matrix mixer?

I'll assume you know what you're doing. 8)
I have no suggestion for software.

Hey, if anybody is interested I build custom ACTIVE matrix mixers!
Here is a demo of an 8x8+1

I design and etch my own PCBs, everything is made in-house and carefully hand-tested.
My mixers are active, and you can choose any gain you want, even singularly on each channel.
You have a built-in high-quality PSU, with an encapsulated ring transformer and an EMI filter, to minimize interference coming in, as well as going out to other equipment. The PSU has an internal switch for operation with 110 or 220 volts, and the unit is shipped with a localized VDE cable, so what you receive is ready to be plugged in and used immediately, anywhere in the world.

Besides basic features, anything is possible, think of a routing architecture, I can do it!

That's very clean work! Have you a price point standardized, or does it hinge on unit features?
I have no suggestion for software.

A 4 track mixer ir fine to make very interesting noises. Since even slight knobs movements can create very drastic sound changes, rarely you will use all knobs during a composition/gig/recording/wathever. So, I think you won't need more than four tracks. I never tried larger mixers, however. But I'm achieving almost infinite possibilities combining mixer, pedal and VSTs plugins.

Choose a cheap one with the most outputs possible (like FX send, phones, control room).
Do you want a manual about rule breaking?

? This is a thread about matrix mixers

I need more than 4 channels and furthermore every channel needs to be able to mix into every other channel :3
