Re: Found readymade synth modules

I made one of these recently. I made mine as a table top half rack and it runs on 9v but it can be made to run on 12v.

Re: Making "Endless" Cassete Loop Tapes

An amazing tool for tape looping is an actual 8-track cartridge recorder. Since they are inherently a loop and have thicker tape than a compact cassette it's easy to cut them to any length from seconds to minutes/hours :) and the recorders lend themselves well to cut-ups/punch-ins with additional p...

Re: Best octave fuzz for noise

Danelectro Black Liquorice / Black Paisley combine metal distortion and octave down and are amazing (tho a bit one-trick) for noise. I have a Black Paisley and can recommend it. Sounds great running tape players through it. Sounds pretty similar to the Black Liquorice except there is a lot more ton...

Re: Octave/Pitch Shifter

Danelectro Chili Dog has the best octave/2 octave down sound. And they are pretty cheap. However there's a slight volume drop and it tends to cut off some of the high end of the original signal. Arion Octaver is damn good and pretty cheap. I remember really enjoying the Boss PS -5 though it doesn't ...

Re: wooden shaker boxes?

I had an idea once to create an album using only wood and wood instruments, without by processing or effects, so in essence it'd be a hnw of trees falling, lumber work, clackers etc. The cover would be a defaced copy of one of The Carpenters' LPs Haha, that's brilliant. Do it! Possible title: Carpe...

Re: Turntable

Play anything that isn't a record on it. Sanding disc, scrap metal, gluten free lasagne sheets, your parent's divorce papers.... Wire up another stylus to the original one and play the same surface in two different places. Fuck about. Spend little. Don't be precious about stuff. Practice. Get good. ...

Re: Cut-up Noise For Beginners

I've always assumed cut-up noise referred to a micro editing process, making it similar to musique concrete. Cutting up recordings and re-arranging, like John Wiese, Evil Moisture etc... Well it does but you can do those things in realtime by switching between sources rapidly or using a sampling di...

Re: New gear?

I love the sound of ms20 but it's too expensive for me. What's your budget? You can pick up an MS-20 mini for about £300 or so on eBay. Do you want an analog mono synth? You could probably sell your volca and put the money towards a decent analog mono synth. For a cheap all rounder, look at microko...

Re: New gear?

Korg MS-20 is a popular synth for noise/PE, but go with what sounds good to YOU.

Lots of people seem to love the Microbrute, but personally I think you can get more out a Mopho or a Novation Bass Station 2.

Re: 0-cost

I think it ran under windows 3.1 or something. Anyway it's mashing the parameters in real time that's fun, pseudo-analog. There's a single DATA ENTRY slider on the beast if we could have 16 or so of them, that would be more like the thing. Yeah, it's baffling how this never really became a thing. E...
