I just think of pots as middle is output and the sides are inputs and when you turn in the direction of what is on the side of the input you are turning towards that. or just use alligator clips to connect stuff to make sure it its the right direction before soldering it. I just did this same backwa...

Hey Noisehack, yeah, actually i came across that video of yours randomly on youtube while looking into the matrix mixer earlier this week. it's about the only one i've seen that touches on using a matrix mixer in the way i see in my head... some of the harsh crumbly sounds around the 50 second mark...

hey, why do some mixers self oscillate in feedback loops? that's the piercing scream one associates with feedback, right? yes that's no input mixer feedback 101 so why don't some self oscillate? well any active mixer should self oscillate, unless it has some type of feedback cancellation circuit or...

Here is a video of just matrix mixer drone with feedback loops I made. Qw468qlDaAE And then your other question about running input into it, you can get some really cool effects by doing this, you can just use it like a bunch of send effects or parallel channels, or you can have feedback loops and t...

So you are running the tape deck on lower voltage so the motor runs slower? This might be more complicated, but if you wanted the rest of the tape deck to run on regular voltage you could use a 555 or arduino or something to adjust the PWM to the motor that spins the tape, adjusting its spinning spe...

if you are outsourcing your pcb production is the only reason you would need eagle, like if you are gonna have your board made in a sweatshop in China or by robots in the US. maybe just try doing perfboard/veroboard/stripboard (some type of prototyping board) where you just wire stuff up to make a o...

maybe add a small resistor in series with the pot, I've noticed on 555 oscillators if you get the resistance below 1k or 10k they go crazy and get hot. also what type of pot are you using? I've noticed with shitty pots near the edges of the range you get weird nonlinearities which can be fun, but wi...

I mostly have experience using handheld recorders for recording sound for film, but in my experience the tascam ones are better than the zooms, but lots of people still use the zooms for some reason. tascams seem to have better build and less obnoxious menus. I used the dr40 on a 2 week documentary ...

I got a hakko 888 like a year ago, but I used to use the cheap $20 ones from Fry's or radio shack, they don't have the temperature control, but when they get too hot you can just unplug them for a while and then plug it back in when it gets too cold. I think 15 or 20 watt ones work pretty well for s...

I don't think the filter machine will work, since it has an envelop follower and will open up the filter when sound is present at the input. also the behringer pitch shift pedal is really cool and I recommend it, but I just tested this out on mine and there really isn't much of like a filtering or v...
