Re: NIMB & Harsh Noise

I've never bothered trying this, but would a compressor turned up full-whack do the job you're after? If you're just amplifying the noise floor it might work? I'm curious for myself now.

Re: Stupid Future

I looked on and off for ages, and found nothing. If there is a way to mod it, it's not been discovered yet.

Re: >$100 Pedals

Being honest, there's enough indie pedal guys and small pedal manufacturers around these days that buying sub $100 Behringer pedals, which have a bad reputation for a reason, is fairly dim.

I have two Caline snake bite reverbs which I love. If their other stuff is just as good, you can't go too wrong on the price.

Re: Favorite NON Pedal Delay(s)

A dump box caches audio at a set length, so if someone curses or says something else they shouldn't while on air, it cuts to live-feed. You can restart delay at the next break. I know some stations use several.

Re: going digital

Probably the Boss desktop loopers would be your best bet if you want to stick to hardware. Alternatively, Pure Data is a free piece of software that lets you build stuff modularly. There's a steep learning curve, but you can get more interesting results, even build a synth in it instead of using loo...

It's interesting to see how everyone approaches things differently and comes up with very similar results.

Re: My gear/advice wanted

I definitely have GAS, but I've gotten to the point where I read manuals for stuff online to see if I really do want it.

At any rate what's the high pitched tone you're talking about? Is there an example? I like the DS-1, I circuit bend them a lot.

Re: My gear/advice wanted

Yeah, the OP1 never seemed that interesting to me. When "It's battery powered!" is used as a selling point, it sounds like they're struggling to list any others. And it's all menu diving.

Re: My gear/advice wanted

I've never used an OP, so I dunno its capabilities. Run some drum sounds out of it through a distortion, on to cassette, then sample it back in. Death Grips just compresses the shit out of everything. Crochambeau said it best, really, your equipment can make any music if you use it to make that music.

Re: Novice Contact Mic question

Glue everything up like this, it should last a good while and with quite a reasonable bit of abuse.

Re: Novice Contact Mic question

Yeah, where it is placed is more important than quality. I'd also add that the size of the element affects the sound, too. There's some protective measures you can take to stop it falling apart so quick. First thing I do is hot glue the top to stop the wires being torn off immediately. If I can get ...

Re: Keyboard synthesizers for noise

I personally recommend finding something with cross-synthesis. Someone here turned me on to it, and it quickly became a favourite. Good for when you want REALLY-NOISY.

For what it's worth, the DX200 (Which is basically a DX7) is my favourite poly synth and gets used a lot.

Re: How to mute channels in mixer?

The Mackie is a pretty nice mixer, for what it's worth. It sounds like your biggest issue is funds, so I would recommend making "Kill switches" and putting them right before sound enters the mixer. They're really cheap, just one button / switch and two 1/4" sockets for each channel. Borrow a solderi...
