No Input Mixing - Purism

Recent posts concerning No Input Mixing display a marked divide in the concept and execution. I am a purist. The inherent noise from the mixer itself is the source material and manipulation of it's controls is the means to the end. Toshimura Nakamura has evolved his technique to include other sourc...

Re: Beginners guide to making noise/experimental

Bump. Because the first post is so good, read it. I'm starting to get sick of seeing lots of "how do I make noise?" threads here. Left unchecked, more will undoubtedly keep getting posted until we're all blue in the face. Perhaps we can curb this issue, and save ourselves from having to answer the ...

Re: BEHRINGER

Please keep it up. All the negative bs is why I can pick them up so cheaply. A fool and his money are soon parted. Ripping off other companies designs and recreating them using the absolute cheapest parts is not a business model I cannot abide. Out of the box failure and on the job failure r...

Re: BEHRINGER

Hype doesn’t equate to results and reliability is everything.
Let's have a chat after you have had the unit for a year.

Re: NIMB & Harsh Noise

is it really just creating basic opamp feedback loops as OSC w/FX units? Yup. From a purist standpoint we're just looking at the preamp block feeding the EQ stack and summing section on back to the input forming up a manual oscillator with poor steady state level control. Once FX are in play I tend...

Gimme the MTBF rate after it has been in the field in the hands of customers, for a year or so then let's talk.

Re: Unicorns, Vaporware or One-offs

Those were the days.
Did the ARP Chroma ever make it past the prototype stage before they went under? I know Rhodes got the design and built them.

Re: NIMB & Harsh Noise

I consider No Input Mixing to utilize nothing but patch cords. Each mixer will yield it's own sonic character, sounds and possibilities. Figure out what YOUR mixer can do because you may be surprised. As long as you don't have a laptop in your set-up you will be fine. (Because laptops don't belong ...

Re: Unicorns, Vaporware or One-offs

But the Casio's went into production and were widely available.

The Voyetra was monumental trade show hype/tease.

Unicorns, Vaporware or One-offs

I saw and played the Octave Plateau " Voyetra " midi guitar synth driver at a trade show in 1985. Tracked well and was faster than the Roland systems at the time. Had no sound output only a midi signal. Not comfortable but the styling was forward looking and a product of the times. Octave Plateau m...

Unconventional Use Of A DBX 118

Pondering the possibilities of pushing this unit into new sonic territories. It needs a cap job anyway so if I've got it opened up and my soldering iron is in it's heated state, what the hell. Any suggestions? https://godzilladestroystokyotower.files.wordpress.com/2018/05/image.jpg https://godzilla...

I would like to be able to use looooong samples (10-20min fieldrecordings for example??)
That is an exceptionally long loop time. From a practicality stand point why do you want such long LOOPS?
